BRUNEI Darussalam is a safe and prosperous country today, largely because of the efforts toward transforming it into a Zikir Nation through prayers, zikir and good works, said His Majesty in his Islamic New Year or Hijrah 1433 titah yesterday.
In welcoming the New Year, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam said he is determined to make the Sultanate a Zikir Nation in the truest sense of the word.
"In essence, we can see that Brunei Darussalam is truly blessed, because with God's gift, we are fortunate to live in peace, safety and prosperity; a situation that is not enjoyed by others," added His Majesty.
"Therefore, I have become even more determined to make Brunei Darussalam truly a Zikir Nation that upholds Allah (SWT)'s laws, with noble moral values, that respects its neighbours and is always ready to help a friend in need wherever they are throughout the world," the monarch said further.
His Majesty also said that all the zikir, doa (prayers) and amal salih (good deeds) that are being done actively in this country has been rewarded by Allah (SWT) with abundant good fortune to the extent that "what we have in Brunei is not easy to come by" anywhere else.
"We should not forget to be thankful and praise Allah (SWT) for the continuous blessings that He has bestowed upon us, especially throughout 1432, which has brought us to this year 1433 Hijrah," he said.
"Allah (SWT)'s mercy extends to all of us, whether individuals or our family, and the whole nation," His Majesty added.
In other countries, there are just too much grief, but "Alhamdulillah, in this country, Allah (SWT) has spared us", he added. Obviously, nobody wants to face terrible scenarios such as natural disasters, diseases and chaos, but when it comes, His Majesty said, "We cannot avoid them. Allah (SWT)'s will cannot be avoided, no matter how advanced or strong (a nation or person) is."
"In my opinion, nothing happens without a reason, including whatever phenomenon that happens on earth," His Majesty said. "The hikmah (wisdom) behind these unfortunate incidents is so that "we will realise the errors of our ways (insaf) and immediately repent and seek forgiveness from the Almighty", he explained.
"If we have the capacity to learn from our mistakes, there is hope that we will be safe from any disaster because Allah (SWT) loves those who are obedient and hate those who transgress," he said further.
His Majesty also said he prays that Brunei will continue to be safe, progressive and protected by Allah (SWT) from any disaster and unsavoury elements.
Finally, the Monarch, on behalf of the Royal Family, wished all citizens of Brunei Darussalam, wherever they may be, a blessed New Year or 1433 Hijrah.
"Live the new year with a new azam (determination) and InsyaAllah, success and happiness will be ours."
